Little did my parents know that bringing me and my brothers to Brooklyn from our native homeland Germany would have such an automotive impact on me. For the first five years of my life, I was raised with the sight of 60s Cadillacs, Chevys and Dodges. VW Beetles and the rare Opel Kadett were the only signs of German engineering superiority – yeah, right. Back in Germany, I continued looking for anything automotive I could get my hands on, anything else than what the rural VW, Opel and Mercedes dealers were able to offer – first we take Berlin, then we take Manhattan. Magazines came first, then books, then the car collector bug bit. After more than 30 years in Germany, I returned to the “land of the free” in 2005 from where my reports reach you. Back to real cars; ‘cause there’s no replacement for displacement!
