In April I was lucky enough to spend 10 days soaking up the rays in sunny California and was rather surprised by the cars seen on the state’s many highways and interstates.
Living in Chelsea I have become accustomed to the daily sight of supercars; rarely does a day go by without spotting a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, or an Aston Martin – in fact, on most days you see all three! I wrongly assumed that this would be the case in California, boy was I wrong!
There were of course a number of vehicles exclusive to the North American market that I’m not used to seeing in the metal. Some were awesome; the Dodge Charger was my fave. But, there were others that, for all intents and purposes, looked like they fell from the ugly tree... and bounced off every branch on the way down... They shall remain nameless!
In terms of sports cars and supercars, Porsches and Corvettes seemed to have the market covered...and I swear that BMW must have the best deals in the LA area, every other car was seemingly an Ultimate Driving Machine. But after 5 days had gone by and I had still yet to spot anything remotely exotic, I was beginning to fret – surely LA and Beverly Hills are the natural habitat for luxury cars? That was until we headed north out of Los Angeles along the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. And it was here, on a beautiful warm and sunny Saturday morning, I found all of my supercars! The Malibu Country Mart, a place to see and be seen, was teeming with shiny vehicles... And the best, the Ferrari California, which suits its namesake to a tee!
