BYD picks APR in Geneva |
Headline-grabbing Chinese car maker BYD Auto, the country’s fastest-growing car maker which anticipates sales of 800,000 cars this year versus 450,000 last year, chose APR to help gets its message over to the international media at the prestigious Geneva Salon.
APR invited a wide cross section of the global motor industry media to BYD’s stand for the first media event of an incredibly packed press day and more than 100 journalists put in an appearance.
APR Chairman Martin Hayes unveiled BYD’s latest offering – the all new and all electric e6 model – while Henry Li, General Manager of BYD’s Auto Export Trade Division, outlined the company’s plans for the European market.
BYD, which has attracted a major investment from legendary US investor Warren Buffett, is regularly named as one of the Chinese motor industry companies most likely to succeed in Western markets. It rocketed to fame on the back of its lithium ion batteries – it’s now the world’s second largest maker – and is seeking to emulate this progress in car markets.
“BYD’s stated intention is to be the world’s largest car maker by 2025”, said Martin Hayes. “While that may seem incredible, its growth rate since it entered the car business just a few years ago has been spectacular and it’s one of the few Chinese car makers to regularly exceed its very optimistic targets”.
“It’s our intention to work with BYD in the future and we have a good and developing relationship based on more than two years of interaction”, he said.
