Johnson Controls requested Automotive PR Germany to assist with promoting their 20th anniversary in South Africa. Their objectives were to position Johnson Controls to attract and retain superior business talent and to highlight its achievements and contribution to the continuing development of the industry and the regional and national economies. The company is the global leader in automotive seating, overhead systems, floor consoles, door panels and instrument panels.
As Lars Boelke, Manager Communications Europe, was coming to South Africa to attend a gala celebration organised by the South African company in Port Elizabeth, the solution suggested itself. Lize Hayward liaised with local management and organised professional photography of the operations, focusing on the graduate development programme. She then invited the entire local press corps to attend a lunchtime function to meet Lars. There were seventeen attendees from print, broadcast and online media. They received a press pack containing media releases in both English and Afrikaans with photographs and were able to discuss the industry with Lars. The resultant publicity was such that everyone in Port Elizabeth was able to share in the occasion.
APR South Africa covered news and industry media throughout the country with general releases. The gala celebration, attended by the Who’s Who of South Africa’s automotive industry, was a roaring success. The less fortunate were not overlooked and a considerable sum was raised for a local charity.
